This has been a super snowy year around my part of the world, and all that snow was the inspiration for the Sierra Snowcap - and maybe there was also my soft spot for snowflake hats! This pattern comes in headband and hat versions, and the hat is designed so that you can switch pompoms out.

The pattern includes some fun to hold your interest. First is finding your perfect poison color, that stripe in the middle making all the colors pop! Find something bright, even garish, to add a little zip. Then there’s the tubular cast-on and colorwork: just enough but not too much! You can knit these up quickly (the headband is particularly fast) from bits and pieces and have one in the mail to someone special!

Welcome to my oddments project number two! (See the first one here.)

This has been a tough few years for many. Me too. And one thing that’s gotten me through is giving people I care about small gifts. Let’s face it: big projects are beyond what many of us want to do right now. But small bits of knitted love are so manageable, and they’re so satisfying when finished and gifted. And even moreso when they’re made from oddments.

And I wanted to share that lovely feeling with you, because we all have those stray bits and pieces of yarn here and there. They’re different weights and different colors. Some are a full skein. Some are just leftover tidbits, but you can’t throw them away! Definitely not a sweater’s worth of any one color or yarn, let alone a shawl’s worth or even a full pair of socks or mitts. You can’t imagine what to do with them, but you don’t want to part with them. Well.
