This shawl is knit from the center out in a basic triangle shape. It has absolutely no purl stitches; the pattern is created with knits, yarn overs, k2togs, and ssks. It’s finished off with a picot bind-off. It’s intended to be a single skein project, but can certainly be made as large or as small as you’d like.

Skills required include just a few picked up stitches (for the garter tab at the beginning), yarn overs, k2tog, ssk, knitted cast-on, and bind-off. A confident beginner should be able to follow this pattern; anyone who has done at least one lace project could easily complete this shawl.

The pattern as written requires one skein (about 200m; 100g) of worsted yarn. However, it is easily customizable for any weight yarn and any yardage. The sample is approximately 43” along the top, and approximately 22” tall at the spine. Pattern includes information on modifying the size.

Gauge is not critical for this pattern. You’ll want to use a needle that gives you a fairly loose, open fabric. The suggested yarn is 100% silk, which grows considerably; keep this in mind when choosing yarn and needles.
