Silk Beaded Pence Jug
The Pence jug is a very old style of miser purse. This pattern, was developed by studying an original in the Smithsonian Institution’s collection, that is dated 1830 – 1860. It is a very small purse, that only measured 4 inches tall, by 2 ” wide.
Most purses of this period were made out of very thin purse silk. The sheen of the silk combined with the beads and unique pattern, makes this a beautiful and artistic coin purse
