These fingerless mitts are designed to keep hands warm on adventures and to show off a special yarn. They came about when I bought a braid of beautiful fibre, hand-dyed in Wales on locally produced fibre. I knew immediately that a robust yarn for long-lasting mittens was what I wanted, and happily neither the spun yarn nor the knitted mittens have disappointed.

Although the texture of these mittens was designed to work well with handspun, they will be equally pleasing in variegated yarns, marled yarns, or gently tonal or solid-coloured yarn. They are a straightforward knit, worked in the round using a textured knit and purl pattern with a rhythm that makes the knitting seemingly fly by. Length can be worked to suit at various stages and by playing around with gauge and needle size, this pattern can be sized to fit a wide variety of hands.
