With this pattern it can be made with either, in one of more colours. Fingering weight yarn held double, giving you the chance to fade, or just add more colour.
I used 7 colours for my jumper, and I describe how I make it into smaller cakes so I can use it evenly over the jumper.
Or UK DK (3 weight) yarn held singly. Again in multiple colours or just the one.
