Simmesport
Hometown Shawls pattern #1 - in tribute to the communities that have shaped my family.
Enjoy making this simple boomerang shawl your own. Mix and match the body and edging yarn to suit your taste. Adjust the size and the spacing of the garter and mesh sections in the body according to your whim. It’s easy to knit and easy to customize.
The shawl is worked starting at one point of the triangle, increasing to the edge. On each row, you create a stitch that rests on the cable of the needle until it is time to add the edging, which is knitted on after the body is complete. (No long cast on or bind off to worry about, and no picking up stitches for the edging, either!)
Simmesport is a small town in Avoyelles Parish, LA where my father was born. I still have a lot of distant Couvillion and Riche relatives living in that area. I remember my childhood visits there being laid back, but colorful.
Yarn:
- 440 yards (402 m) fingering weight yarn in the main body color
- 70 yards (64 m) fingering weight yarn in a contrasting color for edging
The sample pictured used one skein of Twisted Owl Fiber Studio Super Sock 4-ply in “Mix Tape” and one mini skein of Twisted Owl Fiber Studio 2-ply Sock in “Purplicious”.
Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle, at least 24” (60 cm) long
Skill level: advanced beginner - requires kfb, k2tog, skp, yo at the beginning of a row, and attaching edging as you knit.
