Simon Game Applique or Ornament
I was a tween/teen in the 80’s (yes, I am that old) and I get nostalgic for the era of acid wash, shoulder pads, John Hughes films and New Wave music. As such, I am crocheting items that me remind of that quintessential time when our hair was big, our shoulders broad and safety pins were a fashion accessory. With this, I give you another 80’s inspired crochet pattern, the still popular Simon game!
The pattern utilizes size 8 perle cotton crochet thread and a 1.0 mm hook (finished Simon is approximately 5” in diameter). Now, as with all of my thread based patterns, sizing up is not a problem. Just use heavier weight yarn and a corresponding hook that will give you a fairly tight fabric. Your Simon will be fit for a giant’s hands, but hey, I’m not going to judge you for wanting to crochet a larger than life Simon!
Directions use US crochet terminology and abbreviations and are appropriate for an experienced beginner and beyond. I will tell you that my patterns are written in a very traditional style. Meaning, if you can read a crochet pattern from the 1950’s or 1960’s, then you should have no problem reading in my patterns.
Show your love for the 80’s, decorate your holiday tree with Simons or hey, just let people know that you love them by gifting them an unusual hand made ornament! Whatever your purposes for choosing this pattern, start crocheting some Simons today!!
Thank you for for looking and feel free to message me should you have any questions.
