Simple 1884 Victorian Motif
This 1884 pattern is perfect for times when you need to keep your hands busy but can’t concentrate on anything complicated. It’s also good as a blank canvas to try a new or favorite stitch in a counterpane. This Victorian pattern is from The Young Ladies Journal, 1884: Complete Guide to the Work-Table. The original pattern was worked in the round from the outside edge inward. I’ve changed it by working flat from the center out. The triangular motif works up fast; I made 3 of them in one morning! This motif can also be any size by working more or fewer rows.
Skills needed: long-tail cast on, knit, purl, k2tog, yarn over and bind off in a stretchy stitch such as “Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off”. See free videos online for this bind-off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.
24 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make 1 triangle in the stated gauge.
