This is a simple yet pretty hat, it is very warm particularly around the ears due to the triple fold. The pattern is easy to adjust as needed and is quite forgiving. (You can also use different yarn and needle sizes for slightly larger or smaller heads).
The gauge for 5cm square is around 13x14 but this does not have to be exact as a small difference should not have a huge effect on the end result.
