A simple cabled pattern gives this blanket/throw gorgeous texture and added warmth, and will stand up to variegated yarns as well as it does with solid colours. Make it any size you wish, and use just about any yarn you like: use 4-10 ply for a baby blanket, and 8 ply and above for a throw or bedspread. If you want a quicker project it would be the perfect opportunity to use a super chunky yarn, but you can also hold your yarn doubled, or combine two or more yarns to create unique colour and texture combinations. An applied icord gives a clean and stylish finish.

The blanket shown was made to cover the bottom of my king-size bed, and measures 5’ x 2’6”. It used 1450yds (1320m) of a chunky-equivalent yarn with 6.5mm needles (see my project page for more info about the yarns I used), at a gauge of 4sts x 5rows per inch.
