Simple Chevron Scarf
This easy but elegant pattern is great for any beginner looking for a small challenge, or an experienced knitter needing a mindless project. Instructions for the stitch pattern are written. Measurements are given in US and metric.
MATERIALS
Yarn: 475 yards / 435 meters of fingering weight
Shown in Tenderfoot 80/20 in Depths colorway.
Needles: US 5 / 3.75 mm needles
Notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure
GAUGE
Gauge is not critical and will vary depending on yarn used, but here is a guideline:
26 stitches and 30 rows to 4” / 10 cm in chevron pattern
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS (after blocking)
7.5 x 70” / 19 x 178 cm
NOTES
- Two separate but identical pieces are made and grafted together to ensure both ends are scalloped.
- The Kitchener stitch is recommended for grafting the two pieces together, but should you prefer, the three-needle bind-off is a great alternative.
- Simple Chevron pattern is a multiple of 10 + 9. Customize your scarf by adjusting the number of stitches cast on using the multiple for a wider or narrower scarf / shawl.
- The scarf pictured is knit in fingering weight yarn, though the stitch pattern lends itself wonderfully to many different weights. When choosing a different yarn weight, be sure to adjust your needle size accordingly.
