Supplies:

  • Knitting Needles - 3mm (I used bamboo for this project, but I prefer Aluminum needles)
  • 100% wool yarn - fine (3.25 - 3.75 knitting needle gauge range) - I used Queensland collection ‘rainbow beach’ #2 fine - 1 skein is 328 yards (300 meters) and I could have gotten 2 headbands out of it!
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Markers/row counter (or both)
  • Measuring Tape

Gauge
You should always make a gauge swatch before you begin! Save yourself headaches! 23 stitches = 4 inches, 9 rows = 1inch. Use any size needles that you need to achieve the desired gauge.

Note
You must measure the size of the head you are making the headband for! For example, my head measured around the area the headband will wear (your hat measurement) was 23 inches. It took 140 rows to achieve this length. Also, remember to stretch your headband out a bit before measuring…this stitch is VERY elastic both horizontally and vertically. A little smaller than necessary is better than too big!
