This is a really simple and flexible pattern for a knitted advent calendar and is a great project for anyone looking to practice stocking stitch. The instructions here make a calendar measuring around 35 cm x 50 cm, but you can adjust the size of the pockets to your preferred size – just increase or decrease the number of stitches you cast on.

Materials required:
3.5mm knitting needles
1.5mm crochet hook (optional)
Wool needle
100g DK yarn in each of 4 festive colours (I chose blue, white, red and green)
25g white or black DK yarn (for the numbers)
Wooden rod or other inflexible rod of suitable length (I use a spare 10mm knitting needle)
Piece of non-stretchy fabric c. 7 x 35 cm (I cut up an old & broken pair of jeans for this, but you could use any fabric that isn’t stretchy)
Needle and thread (the needle should be small enough to get through your chosen fabric)
