I made multiple beanies in this pattern over the summer for family and friends, just something quick, easy, and fun to freestyle. I liked it so much, I made one for me, too!

The ribbing provides some amount of structure, and thus makes this a better skullcap than a slouchy beanie, and it is warm and breathable. I really like the right side ribbing pattern, but the inside ribbing pattern in nice as well and if you found you liked it better and wove in your ends neatly, this hat could easily be reversible.

Finished hat measures approximately 7” from brim to crown and 8” in diameter, and it would be quite easy to adjust its dimensions. Worked with 2 strands held together. Gauge is not terribly important and a different yarn in a similar weight (DK if two strands held together, chunky if singular) will work just as well. I prefer working on DPNs, but feel free to use a circular needle up until the crown.

This would be a great beginning pattern for someone experimenting with textures and working in the round; it looks more complex than it actually is. Feel free to contact me with any questions, elnynaeve973@gmail.com.
