The mitten is knitted in the round, using either a circular needle or dpns (double-pointed needles). Photos and written instructions talk you through the thumb construction using dpns. Charts are included too.

This design is inspired by historic knitting designs from the late 1700s that originated in the Royal Burgh town of Sanquhar in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. Traditionally full gloves were made using black and white yarn but various colour combinations were also produced.

I have adapted traditional motifs into this cosy fingerless mitten pattern. Choose one dark and one light contrast yarn for best results. Great to warm your hands whilst leaving your fingers free for practical tasks.

Perfect for making gifts, or as an accessory for your cool weather wear. Change the colours to suit your mood, style or occasion.

One size is offered (60 stitches). Adult medium – 20cm (8 inch) circumference.
The mitten construction is cuff up with a fore-thought thumb.
