Simple Spokes
Simple Spokes is a unisex classic fitted hat in sizes from child to large adult. It knits up quickly in worsted weight yarn and is an excellent project for a beginner who wants to practice purling. For the more experienced knitter, it’s a quick easy knit with a pattern repeat that is easily memorised and provides textural interest. The instructions are written only and the pattern has been test knitted.
Gauge: 20.5 stitches and 26 rows in pattern in 10 cm (4 inches) on your larger needles before blocking. Differences in gauge will affect the size of the finished hat and your yarn usage.
Sizing: S (M, L) to suit approx. 51 (56, 61) cm/20 (22, 24) inches heads. Height with brim folded: S (M, L) approx. 19 (20, 22.5) cm/7.5 (8, 9) inches. The sample is size M blocked on a balloon to the same size as the model’s head and is 20.5 cm tall after blocking.
Needle sizes: 4.5mm (US 7) and 5mm (US 8) or size required to obtain gauge. Needle size is a recommendation and you may need to change needle size to meet gauge. You can use a short circular, a long circular using magic loop or on dpns. If using a short circular, you will need to swap to dpns or magic loop as you work the crown.
Yarn: 110 (120, 150) m/120 (130, 165) yards of worsted weight yarn (approx 190 m/200 yards per 100 g/3.5oz). Yarn estimates include a 10% safety margin.
Other supplies: Yarn needle, one stitch marker, tape measure, balloon for blocking (optional).
Free for its release weekend and afterwards it will be available for a small fee.
