Simple Stockinette Shawl
Use any yarn, any needles you wish! If you want something light & lacy, try worsted weight yarn and size 13-15 (9-10 mm needles, or lace weight yarn and size 7-8 (4.5-5 mm)needles. If something warmer is desired, try worsted weight yarn and size 9-10 (5.5-6 mm) needles. There’s a built in 5 st border, so no fringe is needed. You’ll also need a tapestry needle for weaving in ends!
Gauge is not important, as you’re knitting to suit your particular needs/wants.
Finished size is however big you want to make it! A good rule of thumb is to make your shawl as wide as the wearer is tall. Thus if you are 5 feet tall, your shawl should measure 60” across before binding off. You can also just stop when it suits you, or when you’re just plain sick of knitting! This also makes FABOO head scarves/kerchiefs! Use size 3 crochet cotton, size 5 needles, and knit until it’s about 11” across the top. Then using a size “F” crochet hook, make a 10” long ch in each top corner for ties.
