Simple Summer Top
Construction
This top is an everday knit, simple and versatile.
knitted flat and constructed top-down. You start with the back and some short rows. Then you build up the straps and knit the front. Then you seam the body parts together. Finally you finish by adding a double knitted edge at the armholes and a folded neckline.
The pattern is written with stripes but you can easily leave them or only do the small stripes and make a one colored version.
Skill level: Confident beginner
Sizes
I cunstructed this pattern in four sizes with a few centimeters of neative ease in mind. The person in the photos has a 108 cm/42.5 in bust and is waering the third size(104 cm/41 in). However I strongly believe that everybody should choose their preferred amount of negative or positive ease. So choose the size that resonates with you the best.
Gauge
20 sts and 42 rows to 4 inches / 10 cm in garter stitch, blocked
Suggested size 3.5mm
Materials
Otherwise you will need:
3 mm DPNs or circular needle (for the doubleknit edge)
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Scrap yarn or cable
Measuring tape
Yarn
Any sport weight yarn will work for this pattern. I suggest using summer fibers i.e. cotton, linen or bamboo or a mix of those.
Methods used
longtail cast on
garter stitch
short rows
left leaning and right leaning increases
bind off
attached doubleknit band
For everything that sounds scary to you or you don’t know you can always type the method into youtube and it will give you loads of great videos to explain the technique.
I am so grateful for everyone who chooses my pattern and i am so excited to see your version of the top. If you upload a picture to your instagram please tag me (@muske.knits) and add the hashtag #simplesummertop so i dont miss your great creations.
