This is a biased asymmetrical triangular shawl. It is simple yet half-patent (half-brioche) stitch creates some interest.

Gauge is not important, so needle size is just a general recommendation. It would look nice in fingering and light-fingering weight but consider also linen and mohair blends. Sock yarn will be fine, too. Use solid or variegated yarns or make colour blocks from your yarn leftovers, it will all be fine.
