“It’s the sweet simple things of life which are the real ones after all.” --Laura Ingalls Wilder

Have you ever thought about the art of crochet or knitting and how low tech these hobbies are? You take simple things, a crochet hook, or knitting needles, and a ball of yarn and make simple interlocking loops to shape a beautiful fabric. That’s it. And, what’s so amazing is that there are no knots involved. You can pull on the feed yarn and easily and totally unwind the entire fabric back to the ball of yarn. I love having a hobby that is so low tech and simple that creates something so elaborate and beautiful.

With this pattern you can make a shawl or a scarf, using about 800 yards of sock or fingering weight yarn for a shawl, or about 400 yards for a scarf. I used 2 skeins of Mineville Wool Project 120 Gram Sock yarn (400 yards/skein) in the color Graffiti Riot.

You can use a solid tonal color, a splatter-dyed color, a variegated color, or a color-changing yarn for your own Simple Things.

So, pick up your hook and yarn and get crocheting and remember to enjoy the simple things in life!

Photos shown are the wider two skein version, a shawl. It’s very easy to customize the pattern to make a scarf.
