Gauge is not critical. The PDF includes both a chart and written directions.

This is just a simple design of the outline of the Contiguous United States (that is, not including Alaska and Hawaii. Not that those aren’t great states, they’re just not in this pattern). It’s done in garter stitch. All you need to know to make this is how to knit two together, to knit through the front and back loop, and how to cast on and bind off.

I used a size three needle with worsted weight yarn to get a USA measuring about 4 inches wide and 3 inches tall, but you could use other sizes as you desire. It’s great for using up little scraps of yarn.
