The mittens are knit in the round, without seams, using the Mosaic knitting technique.
Mosaic or slip stitch knitting is a colorwork technique where you only knit with one color per row and change colors every 2 rows. The colorwork pattern is created by slipping stitches of the previous row(s) according to the pattern.
You don’t have to change colors in the same row, as you would with traditional stranding. This reduces tangling and tight knitting due to short floats.

Sizing:
Fits hand 17-19 cm around
Mitten length: 16-18 cm (adjustable)

Yarn:
Aran weight yarn
Main color (MC): 150 – 160 yards
Contrast color (CC): 140 – 150 yards

The sample was knit using Filati BBB Full (100% merino wool, 98 yds/50 gr). You will find some alternatives on the left side as well.

Gauge after blocking:
21 sts & 30 rows / 4” in stockinette on larger needles

Suggested needles:
US #6 / 4 mm
US #8 / 5 mm
DPNs or long circulars in both sizes (or as required to meet gauge)

Notions:
A tapestry needle, 2 stitch markers
