If you can confidently cast-on, cast-off, knit and purl, sew a seam and sew on a button, then this pattern is for you! This 8 page electronic (PDF) pattern for beautiful mary jane style baby booties, knitted with or without a stunning rainbow sole, will teach you how to knit with colour, how to shape your knitting using increases and decreases and 3 different ways of making a button-hole or button-loop.

Instructions are given for 3 sizes: foot lengths 9, 11 and 13cm long (approx newborn - 12 months) with directions of how to tweak the width, depth and ankle circumference to fit, and ideas of how to change the texture of the shoe.

It takes one 50g ball of any double-knit weight of yarn and a pair of 3.25mm knitting needles. If you want to do the rainbow sole, you’ll need scraps of coloured yarn approximately 2m in length.

Each bootie is knitted in one piece and seamed along the back. As well as photo tutorials in how to shape your work and how to use colour, I give a detailed photo tutorial that demonstrates how to finish off and darn the coloured ends away neatly, invisibly and robustly, for a professional finish.

Like all my patterns, you’re more than welcome to sell your finished products. I’d be delighted to be credited as the designer, though, and would love to admire your finished work, so do post photos! However the patterns and photographs themselves are copyright, so must not be copied, resold or reproduced in any form.
