Simply Sweet Mini
This is a PDF knitting pattern for a long-sleeved and short-sleeved simple cardigan and matching hat to fit 14 to 15 inch dolls similar to Wellie Wishers and Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls.
PATTERN DETAILS: The sweater has raglan sleeves and a buttoned front opening. Using seamless top down construction, the sweater is knit flat back and forth with both knit and purl rows from the neck down. The sleeves are placed on scrap yarn or holders in order to complete the body. The sleeve stitches are then transferred back to the needles and additional stitches are picked up from the underarm. The sleeves are knit in the round using either double pointed needles or magic loop technique on circular needles. The hat is knitted in the round from the brim to the top and finished off with an i-cord loop. Garter stitch is used around the hat band, the sweater bottom and the sleeve cuffs and on both sides of the button band. The complete PDF pattern consists of instructions with photos and is 25 pages The summary of instructions, text only, is 6 pages.
SKILL: Intermediate/confident beginner. This pattern includes basic knitting techniques as well as the following additional techniques:
• Knitting in the round on circular needles or double pointed needles. I used the magic loop technique.
• Increasing a stitch by knitting into the front and back kfb of a single stitch.
• Making buttonholes with yarn over and knit 2 together technique.
• Knitting 2 stitches together k2tog
• Transferring live stitches to scrap yarn/holder and back to needles.
• Knitting an i-cord optional and explained in instructions.
GAUGE/TENSION:
38 stitches x 48 rows = 4” 10 cm square in stockinette stitch on needle size required to get correct gauge I used #0 US/2 mm needles.
* Note: If you have more than 38 stitches in 4”, change to larger needles. If you have fewer than 38 stitches in 4”, change to smaller needles.
SUGGESTED MATERIALS:
- Needles: For the pictured sweaters and hats I used #0 US 2 mm needles. You may need a different size to give you correct gauge/tension for the yarn you are using. If you are knitting sleeves and hat in the round, you will need either double pointed or circular needles for magic loop. If you are using magic loop, you will need at least a 40”/100 cm cable but longer is preferred.
- Yarn: For the pictured sweaters and hats I used super fine lace weight #1 weight approximately 196 yards/28 g in total. Yarn amount is approximate and will vary depending on yarn used. Yarn options used for testing: The following yarns were used for the hats and sweaters in the photos: Loops and Threads Woolike, Knit Picks Gloss, Knit Picks Shadow
- Additional materials: yarn needle for weaving ends, scrap yarn, 6 stitch markers, 5 buttons. Many thanks to my wonderful testing team, Diane, Michele and Carol for helping me create another successful pattern.
