Learn how to crochet the alternative alternating single crochet spike stitch! Paired with super bulky yarn, you’ll make a deliciously cozy baby blanket for the colder months.

I just love the woven look of this stitch! I was looking for a stitch that would play nicely with middle-of-the-row color changes, and I am pleased with the result.

This blanket is the first in a two-part series because I made coordinating blankets for a set of twins! The second blanket features the same yarn in a slightly different colorway and the double crochet spike stitch.

The border is worked in the same stitch for a neat finish.

Materials

Size 6 super bulky weight yarn, approximately 1,053 yards. For this pattern I used Lion Brand Hometown Yarn in the following colors:

5 Skeins Catskills Corner
1 Skein Huntington Foliage
1 Skein Cocoa Beach
1 Skein Lakeland Olive
1 Skein Ashland Pine
1 Skein Riverdale Tweed

Size P/12mm crochet hook
Scissors
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

To adjust the width of the blanket, start with any odd number of chains.
