Sinking Stripes Beanie
Its sinking because it has no floats!
This began as a beanie for a good friend who has partial color-blindness and can only see light greens and light blues. I wanted a unique look for several colors, but doing it in cotton, as it’s a year-round cap for her, I didn’t want any floats. I wanted to keep it as light as possible.
Doing these offset stripes in single strands of accent color and carrying them vertically each row instead of floating horizontally, I was able to create a light-weight easy to wear cap/beanie with a very clean and neat interior look and delightful little lines of color.
This lends itself well to continental knitting to keep the main color to the left for each color carry from the previous row.
Also it is good for cotton because there are 30 working ends of accent color and wool tends to stick to itself so easily.
I did not find it troublesome to have many ends if I kept them in a careful tail and rotated the tail as I rotated the working area.
great stash-buster as each accent color uses about 9 yards.
