Sirente
This design was inspired by textiles and carpets I admired during my travels in Peru. As well as finding Peruvian designs and patterns incredibly inspiring, I feel a deep personal sense of connection to its rocky, mountain landscape, which reminds me of my Abruzzo birthplace, and its characteristic peaks, such as Sirente, from which this design takes its name.

Gauge
32 stitches and 36 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded stockinette in the round on gauge-size needle(s)
Use 3mm needle(s) as a starting point for swatching.

Size
This pattern creates a fairly large fitting pair of mittens, to fit hand with 21-22cm / 8-9in circumference. They can be comfortably worn, as shown, by smaller hands over a hand-knitted lining or another pair of mitts or gloves, to create a cosy outer layer.

Pattern notes
These mittens are worked from bottom to top. After the corrugated rib cuff, the hand is worked in stranded colourwork, with an integrated thumb gusset. The thumb top is completed at the end.
