The herringbone stitch, done with single crochet in a special way, creates a cool texture that’s both trendy and easy to wear. The brim is neatly folded in half, giving your hat a neat finish.

Materials & Tools:
1. Yarn Requirements:
Worsted weight yarn in 1 color, approx. 215m.
Suggested Yarn: Malabrigo Yarn Rios 100g = 192m, 100% Merino Wool.
Plus some yarn for a pom pom.

1. Hook size 5mm, 4mm and 3.5mm. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
2. Tapestry needle (to weave and hide yarn ends).
3. Scissors.
4. Stitch marker.

Level: Intermediate – herringbone crochet stitch.

Gauge after blocking:
20sts x 12rows in 4”/10cm in Herringbone Crochet Stitch using 5mm crochet hook.
If necessary, adjust hook size to obtain the correct gauge.
Before you measure, please take the time to block your swatch in the same manner that you will block your hat.

Size after blocking (adjustable):
18” (46cm), brim circumference, unstretched.
9.5” (24cm) height, brim folded in half.

Notes:

1. The hat is worked lengthways which means that the foundation chain equals the height of the hat.
2. The height of the hat can be adjusted by simply making more or less starting chains.
3. The brim circumference can be adjusted by simply working more or less rows.
4. The pattern incorporates three different crochet hook sizes in each row. This variation in hook sizes is essential for achieving the perfect fit for your hat. Make sure to switch between these hooks as indicated in the pattern for the desired results.
