The Siroc Sock design came about as a way to bust my sock stash, especially my leftover advent self-striping sock yarn from years past. I wanted a motif that would not only play nicely with the horizontal striping, but would also add a bit of vertical detailing for visual interest. This is achieved with simple 1/2 left and right cross cables that are enjoyable to knit and work up fast! This pattern has been tech-edited and tested.

Siroc is derived from the word sirocco, meaning a hot, dusty wind that blows across the Mediterranean coast. This wind is so powerful that it creates ripples in the sand. This ripple effect is mimicked in this sock pattern, created by the cabling technique.

This pattern has two heel options, the Shadow Wrap or Afterthought Heel, based on your preference and also includes both charted and written instructions.

There is all-over cabling on the leg and then the foot only has cabling on the front half; this means the leg will fit more snugly. If you’d prefer a looser leg, you can opt to only cable the front half of that as well, so that there are no cables on the back side of your sock.

Yarn requirements: One skein of Fingering Weight/4-ply sock yarn (approx. 400 yds).

Striped: The Cozy Knitter Bliss, 80% Superwash Merino / 20% Nylon (Fingering Weight) 420 yds (384 m) / 115 g; 1 skein in 2023 Advent Stripe

Speckled: (MC) Salty Blonde Fibers 2-ply Sock, 80% Superwash Merino / 20% Nylon (Fingering Weight) 400 yds (366 m) / 100 g; 1 skein in Burn Book

(CC) Silly Goose Yarns Plump Fingering, 75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon (Fingering Weight) 463 yds (423 m) / 100 g; 0.5 skein in Bubblegum

Solid: Polka Dot Sheep Tenderfoot 80/20, 80% Superwash Merino / 20% Nylon (Fingering Weight) 400 yds (366 m) / 100 g; 1 skein in Slate

52 rnds in Siroc pattern and in stockinette = 4 in (10 cm) after blocking

Sizes 2 & 4 on US 1.5 (2.5 mm) needle:
3 full repeats across in Siroc pattern = 2.75 in (6.9 cm) on US 1.5 (2.5 mm) after blocking
32 sts in stockinette = 4 in (10 cm) after blocking
48 rnds in Siroc pattern and in stockinette = 4 in (10 cm) after blocking

For Best Fit: You will measure the circumference of your foot around the widest part, and allow for 1-2 in (2.5-5 cm) of negative ease in width and 0.5 in (1 cm) negative ease in length.
