Sisterhood of the Shoulder Cozy
Everyone needs a shoulder cozy! This simple-to-knit project not only fits many body types with its stretchy shape, it’s the perfect accessory when moving from heat to air conditioning during the warmer months. Wear as a single loop cowl, or pull down over your shoulders to ward off a chill. A great travel accessory too; it just folds up and stays handy in your pocket or bag.
This pattern is written for one size, but as we already mentioned the fabric has fantastic stretch. Keep this in mind if substituting other yarns. Illimani Sabri II is a chainette cotton with a touch of alpaca; the yarn construction and addition of animal fiber gives this yarn its stretchy properties. You will also want a loose knit gauge to maximize the stretch – but if you still wish to have yours a bit larger, there is a bit of extra yarn left over when using two skeins; purchase more yarn if you will make it significantly larger. Add more rounds to make longer, or add increases to make wider.
SUPPLIES:
Yarn: Illimani Sabri II, two skeins
US size 9 or 10 needle, or size for gauge (see gauge notes) length 24”.
Stitch Marker and Darning needle
Sabri II is available in 7 colors at YarnScout!
Finished dimensions: 27” circumference (unstretched) at neck edge, 41” circumference at lower edge (unstretched), 12” tall. Lower edge will stretch up to 60”.
Gauge = 16 sts and 24 rows over 4” in stockinette stitch. I’m providing two needle sizes to encourage you to consider how you tend to knit; use the size 9 if you tend to knit looser, and the 10 if you tend to be tighter. You can do a gauge swatch if you like, but what is most important with this piece is that the cast on and bind off edges are stretchy.
Pattern includes additional written instructions on how to achieve a stretchy cast on and bind off, and a photo tutorial on how to fasten off your yarn when knitting in the round.
