Perhaps because I have two younger sisters of my own, I have always been enamored with tales of sisterhood. Whether it’s the Bennet or Dashwood sisters from Jane Austen’s classics, Laura and Mary from Little House on the Prairie, or countless other tales of sisters, the relationship between sisters reveals how we can both be at once so similar, and yet so wholly different. Yet one theme remains true: sisterhood, above all other relationships, is perhaps the most formative and unique relationship in its ability to teach us to understand not only ourselves, but also develop empathy and understanding for others along the way. For, as The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants taught me when I was a teenager, sisterhood transcends blood; it is a bond between all women.

At once as feminine as they are practical, with room for the even the most whimsical of touches – a ribbon (that may border on frivolity for some, or encapsulate romantic ideals for others) – the Sisterhood Socks are designed to honor our similarities and our differences, our choices that express just a small glimpse of who we are …and to be that favorite, go-to pair of socks as comfy and familiar as your favorite pair of jeans. Or a sister who knows just what you need, when you need it, no questions asked.

Materials

Yarn
80 - 100 grams (approximately 180 / 200 / 220 yds.) light worsted weight yarn

Yarn used in photos:
Patons Classic Wool Worsted Yarn in the Blue Fog colorway (1 ball for both socks, all sizes) – 100% Wool

Needles
US 6 (4.00 mm) double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

Other options: Longer circulars for Magic Loop or circulars would also work if you’re comfortable translating pattern written for DPNs to those methods.
 
Notions
1 stitch marker to mark BOR (optional: additional stitch markers to mark pattern repeats)
1 tapestry needle
Approximately 48” of ribbon (24” per sock, or desired length) – 1/4” – 3/8” in size (do not go larger than 3/8” or it will not fit through eyelet band)

Gauge & Notes
23 stitches & 30 rows = 4” in Stockinette

Socks are worked in the round on DPNs from the top down, and include a heel flap and gusset heel construction. Pattern features knits and purls, slipped stitches, yarn overs, and decreases. Instructions are written.

Pattern is written for 3 sizes: Small (32 sts), Medium (40 sts), and Large (48 sts).

For easy visual reference sizes are color-coded: small – blue, medium – red, and large – green.
