I make my morning tea in a little 2-cup (16 oz/475 ml) teapot, but could I find a pattern for a literally pint-sized teapot cozy to keep it warm? One that would leave the handle and spout free for pouring? And… here was the real sticking point… leave the top free in case I wanted to refresh my brew?

Off to the design notebook!

These cozies knit up quickly, using less than 100 yds of yarn each. They’re designed to cover the pot from base to rim, leaving the spout and handle free for pouring and giving easy access to the top.

Skills needed:
The skill level ranges from the simple Easy Peasy Blanket Cozy, to the more challenging Teapot Cardigan Cozy. Techniques used include picking up stitches, making cables, knitting in the round to make the bases, short row shaping, lateral braid, and crocheting button loops. Links to tutorials are included for more advanced techniques.

Yarn:
The six cozies in this set of patterns use worsted-weight wool yarn. You can substitute wool blends, acrylic, or acrylic blends. Kitchen cotton is not recommended because it lacks the elasticity needed for the cozies to fit.

Notions:

  • Buttons (1/2” - 5/8”)
  • tapestry needle
  • rounded black shank buttons and embroidery floss for the Kitty Cozy.

Size:
All cozies are modeled on and designed to fit a 16 oz (475 ml) Old Amsterdam Porcelain Works teapot and should accommodate similar round-bodied 2-cup pots.
