Skaros
Skaros ~ the cliff. This is the third pattern in the Return to Santorini Collection. The other two are Emporeio and Akrotiri. A full e-book with additional content will eventually be available.
When I travelled to the island of Santorini for the first time, one of the places that left a stark impression on me was the cliff at Skaros. It is a rocky promontory with a peculiar shape, jutting out into the caldera near the village of Imerovigli, and scarcely visited.
Sizing / yarn requirements: See bottom picture for detailed sizing and yardage table.
The top can be worn with a bit of positive or negative ease around the bust. Choose the size that is closest to your bust measurement.
The mesh lace is fairly stretchy and creates a drapey fabric, so each size can be blocked to fit a wide range of body shapes. The pattern contains detailed advice for adjustments.
The top is shown in size S2 on a person with a 84 cm / 33’’ bust and a 90 cm / 35’’ hip.
Yarn advice:
The original top was knit with “Kalinka” by Karin Öberg (320 m / 350 yards per 100g) in colour “Cyan”, a pure linen yarn with crisp stitch definition.
The pattern is suitable for a wide variety of summer yarns, but works best with a yarn with some linen content. With heavier fibres like cotton or bamboo, keep in mind that the fabric may stretch a lot.
Needle advice:
Use the needle size that gives you the required gauge, most likely 3 – 3.5 mm / US 2 ½ - 4.
The garment is partly worked flat and partly in the round. If you want to use the same needle for everything, it is best to use a medium long circular needle (80 - 100 cm / 32 – 40’’).
Construction:
The garment is worked top down, starting with the neckband, which is knitted in the round. Front and back are continued separately and flat, then joined at the underarm and continued in the round towards the bottom, where the edge is shaped with short rows.
The lace pattern is charted only.
