Skein Watch Socks
Any fan of the Prairie Girls Knit and Spin podcast has been endlessly amused by Prairie Girl Danie’s massive order of black sock yarn. Jokes abounded about what she would do with any leftovers. The Skein Watch socks aim to solve that problem by incorporating that black sock yarn with her bright, variegated One Twisted Tree yarn.
Inspired by a carved Kenyan gourd, the Skein Watch socks are knit from the cuff down using a stranded colorwork technique to create a dynamic spiraling pattern. Bright variegated Twist Series yarn in lighter tones pops against the black and may subtley pool, depending on gauge and stitch count. This pattern is sure to delight Prairie Girls fans.
Sock requires about 120-275 yards of variegated and 230-300 yards of black, depending on size.
A note on sizing: stranded colorwork does NOT stretch! Therefore please pick a size with close to zero ease or very little negative ease. This may mean knitting a sock with more stitches per round or larger needles than you are used to in order to produce a sock that will fit over your heel.
Sample shown in One Twisted Tree One Twisted Summer and Knit Picks Stroll in black in size XL with 0.3”/0.75 cm negative ease.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate: Skills include casting on, stranded knitting in two colors in the round, afterthought heels, grafting, and weaving in ends.
