Skirted Leggings Outfit for 14"-15" Baby Doll
This pattern is for three pieces; a striped, long-sleeved onesie, a hat with pointed corners, and a pair of leggings with a skirt knitted over them. The idea for this came from the little skirts that girls wear with the shorts or leggings attached, which are always their favorites. The leggings and skirt are knitted separately from the bottom up to just below the waistband, and then are grafted together by knitting both pieces as one. This technique is pretty simple, and I think it is called grafting or kitchener stitch, only instead of binding off this way you are knitting the two rows together with a third needle.
The onesie is knitted from the top down, and fastens at the crotch with a small piece of velcro. The hat has a ribbed folded-up edge and a squared top. The skirted leggings are seamed at the inseam and center back, the onesie is seamed at the center back, and the hat is seamed first at the back and then across the top.
Since you will need a skein each of two different colors, you will have no problems running out of yarn. You will need size 3 and 5 needles, and a small piece of velcro to fasten the onesie. The pattern as shown was done with Caron Simply Soft Light yarn.
