Skluv Scarf and Afghan
“I need a new TV” SALE! All patterns $2.00!
I enjoyed the skull motif so much that I decided to make another item using the design. As it turns out, you have 2 patterns in one with this (scarf and afghan square) plus the bonus of an alternate square! Three patterns in one! If you have not seen them, I also have a fingerless glove pattern using the same motif, my Skluv Gloves. I figured the two would make a great combo for personal use or a great and easy gift.
Once I had the scarf design down, I decided that making a square out of it would be a natural progression, so I did a sample one for you here to give you an idea of just how customizable this motif can be.
I did my sample scarf in Patons Brilliant, but it worked up nicely for me in Patons SWS worsted weight and in a size 3 cotton.
The sample squares were done with Red Heart Super Saver and a size H hook, but I think I am going to do a complete afghan for a family member and use some of my wool cone yarn to do so.
I did not include a gauge with this as it is unimportant to the final result, but you do want to be sure to use a hook-yarn combo to give you a fairly open look. This is a lace pattern and looks best when it is opened up.

Design inspiration note from Skluv glove Pattern notes:
This pattern came about because I noticed something odd when looking through projects here on Ravelry. I was looking at the Short and Sweet Jacket, and noticed that the motif looked very much like a skull, just waiting to get out. Me being who I am, I HAD to go get my Stitch N Bitch the Happy Hooker book from my bookshelf and look. Sure enough, it was just a matter of a few modifications to the main motif and that pretty little lace had morphed into a very cool skull!
