This set includes two colorwork sock patterns that capture darker, more eerie themes, yet with a touch of whimsy. These designs are perfect for those who enjoy embracing their “darker side” without going full-on spooky. Featuring two iconic, gothic motifs - bats and skulls - these socks are still suitable for everyday wear. I would call this “Subtle Halloween”.

Pattern 1: Skullily Socks
The stars of the Skullily Socks are the smiling skulls featured prominently in the colorwork pattern of the leg. Geometric motifs like diamonds and stripes frame the skulls. The foot’s central motif, reminiscent of a fleur-de-lis, inspired the name: a simple combination of “Skull” and “Lily” into one word “Skullily” — a sock that combines edginess (skulls) and elegance (lily-like motif).

Pattern 2: Bats and Cicadas Socks
This sock pattern pays homage to the classic Houndstooth pattern, but with a quirky twist. With a closer look, you might find fluttering secrets hidden in the design: bats and cicadas. You can select from three different motifs: hanging bats, bats flying upwards, and cicadas.
These socks express my admiration for fruit bats. If you’ve ever seen one eat a banana, you’ll know that they are not scary at all.

Technical notes
All socks are knitted top down (from cuff to toe) with a ribbed cuff and a simple short-row heel. They are finished with a barn toe and closed with Kitchener stitch. The patterns are done with stranded colorwork, using just two colors at a time.
The Skullily Socks come with two length options for the leg with slightly modified pattern designs to accommodate the length difference. For the Bats and Cicadas Socks, both the length of the leg and the length of the foot are easily adjustable due to the small pattern repeat. They can easily be customized to fit your feet best.
The instructions include written directions for each part of the socks, along with several tips on knitting well-fitting socks in colorwork. Additionally, there are charts for the colorwork and a summary table with all the measurements and required amounts of yarn/yardage for both patterns.

Dieses Set enthält zwei Sockenmuster mit dunkleren, schaurigen Themen, aber mit einem Augenzwinkern. Diese Designs sind perfekt für alle, die ihre „dunklere Seite“ ausleben möchten, ohne gruselig zu sein. Trotz der beiden klassischen Gothic-Motive (Fledermäuse und Totenköpfe) sind diese Socken passend für jeden Tag.

Muster 1: Skullily Socks
Der Star der Skullily Socks sind die fröhlichen Totenköpfe im Jacquardmuster des Schafts. Sie werden von geometrischen Motiven wie Rauten und Streifen begleitet. Das zentrale Motiv auf dem Fuß erinnert an Fleur-de-Lis und war Inspiration für den Namen: eine Kombination aus „Skull“ (engl. Schädel) und „Lily“ (engl. Lilie) zu einem Wort: „Skullily“.

Muster 2: Bats and Cicadas Socks
Sieht aus wie ein klassisches Muster, birgt aber kleine, flatternde Geheimnisse: Fledermäuse und Zikaden. Diese Socken sind eine Anspielung an das Hahnentrittmuster, aber mit einem Twist. Es stehen drei Motive zur Auswahl: hängende Fledermäuse, nach oben fliegende Fledermäuse und Zikaden.
Die Socken sind eine Hommage an Flughunde (engl. fruit bats). Wer schon einmal gesehen hat, wie sie eine Banane verschlingen, der weiß, dass sie überhaupt nicht gruselig sind.

Anmerkungen zur Konstruktionsweise
Die Socken werden am Bündchen begonnen und zur Spitze gestrickt. Die Ferse wird als Bumerang-Ferse gearbeitet, die Spitze als Bandspitze und mit einem Maschenstich abgeschlossen. Die Muster werden in Jacquard-Technik gestrickt mit jeweils nur zwei Farben gleichzeitig.
Für die Skullily Socks stehen zwei Längenoptionen für den Schaft zur Auswahl, die sich geringfügig im Design unterscheiden. Bei den Bats and Cicadas Socks lassen sich aufgrund des kleinen Musterrapports sowohl die Schaft- als auch der Fußlänge leicht an jeden Fuß individuell anpassen.
Die Anleitungen enthalten Textanweisungen für jeden Teil der Socken und einige Tipps zum Stricken passender Socken in Jacquard-Technik. Zudem sind Strickschriften für die jeweiligen Muster sowie eine zusammenfassende Tabelle mit allen Maßen und benötigten Wollmengen zu finden.
