Skull Mandala
The Skull Mandala crochet pattern contains step by step instructions and photos for making the skull motif, the surrounding background to make it into a circle, and the expanding mandala design.
You can choose to make a small mandala, or continue to make the standard size pictured (26 inch diameter with Aran weight yarn).
There are instructions on how to make the mandala larger, up to any size you like, and other variations you can try.
This pattern is made with aran yarn and a 5.5mm hook. Alternatively can use any size yarn and hook for this project to make different sizes.
Materials
o Yarn: You can use any colour or type of yarn you prefer. I am using Paintbox Simply Aran (from LoveCrochet.com), one 100g ball in each of the following shades:
• A: Slate Grey, shade no 205
• B: Paper White, shade no 200
• C: Pure Black, shade no 201
• D: Granite grey, shade no 206
• E: Racing green, shade no 227
• F: Pillar Red, shade no 214
o Hook size: I have used a 5.5mm hook for the aran (worsted) weight yarn.
o Gauge: not important for this project. Use the yarn and hook you find most comfortable for your piece.
o Finished size:
• Small, 38cm (15 inch) diameter, finish at end of Round 12.
• Standard, 65cm (25 inch) diameter, finish at end of Round 23.
• Large, you can make this pattern in any size you like by repeating rows as described at the end of the pattern.
o Difficulty - intermediate: This pattern can be a little fiddly in places until you get the hang of it, but I have provided detailed instructions and lots of photos.
Colours
Change the colours to your favourites; match your home décor; create a perfect wedding gift… the possibilities are endless. I’m working on a rainbow version and a pastel version, once they are finished I will add the lists of colours I use onto my website.
