This is not a pattern with specific gauge or stitch numbers. To get this effect you need to use a yarn that is dyed with TWO DISTINCT COLORS.

You can use dk weight or fingering weight yarn. The length of the colors and size of the skein determines the finished size of the cowl/scarf.

Provisional cast on is needed so that the working yarn can start immediately with knitting. Casting on stitches would distort the color repeats.

A slipped stitch edging creates a small, i-cord type finish.
