Skyshield Shawl
A shawl to reflect the winter landscape—bare trees against the pale colors of the winter sky. The shawl is worked in alternating sections of brioche and blended garter, ending with a curving section of stockinette brioche. The main color moves against the background in a branching pattern. The background of contrasting colors fades from dark to light, as the eye moves from land to sea to sky.
Worked from the top down, the shawl starts with a stockinette tab and stitches picked up for the edges. The first section is brioche with standard increases at the center and at both edges. The second section worked in blended garter as the background for a series of slipped stitches in the MC.
The third section is brioche with the MC and the next CC; the fourth section is blended garter, again with a series of slipped stitches. The fifth section is the border, worked in stockinette brioche with the MC and the 3rd CC. In stockinette brioche, all the RS stitches are brk stitches and the WS stitches are brp stitches. A curved edge is created by sets of stacked increases and decreases. The slipped stitches from the previous section line up with the decreases. The final edge is worked with an I-cord bindoff.
Sample Shawl is worked in Life in the Long Grass Moon in Harbour, 2 skeins (MC) and in Dune fade, 3 skeins (CC 1-3)
