Skywhale is an Australian icon. The hot air balloon was created by Patricia Piccinni for Canberra’s centenary in 2013. As part of the 2020 launch of Skywhale Papa (pattern coming soon), Patricia commissioned me to make a knitting pattern of Skywhale Mama.

The pattern includes decision points where knitters are offered the option to create the same element different ways. This means they can make decisions that cater for their skill level and desired aesthetic.

The pattern contains 9 pages of knitting instructions and 18 pages of construction instructions, complete with lots of pictures. Many of the steps also include video tutorials as well.
