The double-layered hat is knit in the round from the tip of the inside crown to the tip of the outside crown. You choose the number of slalom pattern repeats from one to eight. The brim folds up well for a pop of contrasting color and shows a bit through the lace. Use chart or table for the slalom pattern. Pair hat with Slalom mitts for a double black diamond set.

Techniques: Knit in the round using DPNs (double pointed needles) or other small circumference method. Knit in the round with circular needle. Simple lace.

Will fit most adults. It is possible to make smaller by casting on fewer stitches then proceeding as written.

Fingering yarn, main color (MC) and contrasting color (CC). Pictured is MC “Neptune” and CC “Flaxen.” One skien of each will make two hats plus 2 pairs of mitts and plenty left over. I recommend against heavily variegated yarns as this will obscure the pattern. Hand-dyed yarns with subtle gradations are particularly nice.

Materials: Size 2.75 mm (or as needed for gauge) DPNs and 2.75 mm 16” circular needle. Stitch markers. Yarn needle.
