These are not true pleats but a very miniaturized version of shadow pleats. There is actually very little extra fabric here so those who normally avoid pleats to avoid bulk may indulge. The skirt is knitted sideways to there are no size limits. The yoke is knitted onto the pleated area using the fabric in the usual direction.

YARN, GAUGE AND MACHINE
1 cone of Tamm Diamante and 1 cone of Estilo are needed for all sizes. The yarns should be in the same or very similar colors. Swatch fabric at about stitch size 6-7, alternating 2 rows Diamante with 2 rows Estilo. A standard gauge Japanese machine or a Passap will work equally well. Passap skirts will not be quite as long. Wash and steam hard holding the stripes vertically and steaming for length. After the fabric is cool and dry, measuring it relaxed should produce a gauge of about 8 stitches/16 rows per inch. Larger swatches are best for getting accurate gauge predictions.
