Slice of Citrus Coaster
Knit a coaster of your favorite citrus! Lemon, orange, grapefruit, lime, blood orange… go wild with the colors and make it your own.
You could make an assortment of slices for a garland or bunting, use them as the centers for granny squares, or a patches for a sweater, or reusable mini-washclothes or scrubbies… your imagination is the limit!
The Slice of Citrus Coaster is a great project for those little scraps of cotton yarn you have left over and want to stashbust.
This pattern is based on a modified version of the pi circle, as made popular by Elizabeth Zimmermann and as instructed by Staci Perry of VeryPink Knits. Starting from the center and working your way out, your citrus slice takes shape as you take advantage of the structure of the pi circle. On the first increase row, you begin the pulp. On the next, you add holes where seeds could have been. On the last, you start the pith and then add the segments. Finally, you wrap your slice in its peel as you’re binding off.
