This is a crochet pattern to create 6 watermelon shaped placemats and a watermelon shaped holder to neatly store them in. This pattern is written using US terms and includes a chart to convert into UK terms. I have used photographs to help with instructions in the pattern and have included a printer friendly version.

I have also included adjustment instructions of this pattern to make a Sliced Apple Placemat Set, for those of you who would like to make matching placemats to go with my previous Sliced Apple Coaster Set. (You will need to have the coaster pattern to fully understand the adjustments)

I have used UK Chunky yarn for this pattern, you may use 2 strands of DK yarn together instead to achieve the same gauge. I have used a smaller hook than standard for this size yarn to create a tighter stitch, which will help prevent liquids seeping through when using the placemats. Finished placemats should measure approximately 27cm in diameter.

You will need:
Red Yarn - approx. 250g
Dark Green Yarn - approx. 170g
White/Cream Yarn - approx. 80g
Black Yarn - under 50g
Polyester Fibre Stuffing - approx. 50g
A button - 20-25mm in size
Optional - Light Green Yarn for stripes and some pins - under 50g
A yarn needle and scissors.
