This was designed as a neck gaiter that was snug enough to be effective while cycling. It has no loose ends and the resultant fabric feels smooth on the skin. It also doubles as an ear warmer/headband.

Just about any type of worsted weight yarn could be substituted, as long as it has some amount of stretch in it. The one pictured uses less than one skein of Canadiana yarn.

The sizing/stitch counts given are for someone with a relatively small head (52cm hat size). I started with the initial chain, once joined, just fitting past the head with slight stretching, and then double checked the fit while making the first few rows. A general guideline may be to make the circumference a few cm smaller than the hat size, and use the stretch in the fabric to get it on and off.

To finish off without a “step”, try an invisible finish.
