I love knitting socks! But I didn’t like how quickly I wore through the fabric under the ball of my foot and sometimes my heel. It became obvious quite quickly how well the heel flap held up in comparison. So I applied the concept of the slipstitch heel flap to the foot of the sock. And, voila, we have the Slip-Stitch Sole.

These are instructions for how I reinforce the sole of my socks with the slip-stitch pattern written up per request. This is NOT a pattern for a complete sock.

You can use any top-down sock knitting pattern of your choice. However, this has only been tested using a traditional heel flap. You may need to make some adjustments to accommodate other heel styles.

You will quickly find how easy it is to reinforce the sole of your socks while you knit them! I hope you enjoy using this simple trick while knitting your next pair of socks.
