Slip Stream Diamonds
Slip Stream Diamonds plays with the self-striping colors of Urth Yarns Uneek Worsted with slip stitches that cause the colors to syncopate for a unique and fun design. After making a couple of the hats with Uneek Worsted, I decided to try it in a striped hat with two colors of Berroco Vintage. I was really surprised at the effect of this simple mosaic pattern in a 1x1 stripe! (I haven’t tried it in a 2x2 stripe. I wonder what it would look like?)
Slip Stream Diamonds is written for one colorway of Uneek Worsted, but I give information in the notes section on how to work the 1x1 stripe pattern.
The pattern is charted, but there are also written instructions for each chart.
You have size options in the pattern: 16” or 18” circumference - stretches to 20” (22”) - and fitted or slouchy. This means you’ll have four possible combinations - 16” fitted, 16” slouchy, 18” fitted or 18” slouchy.
Gauge is important! If you’re using Uneek Worsted (or any other superwash yarn), please block your swatch before measuring.
For the Uneek Worsted hat, you will need:
- One skein of Uneek Worsted
- US 7/4.5mm 16” circular needle for the ribbing
- US 8/5mm 16” circular needle and US 8/5mm dpns for the rest of the hat or size needled to obtain gauge
- Stitch marker
For the two-color striped hat (second photo), I used Berroco Vintage (one skein of each color - MC ~65-80 yds, CC ~40-50 yards) , although any light worsted weight yarn will work. Details on how to make the two-color striped hat are included in the pattern.
