Lovely square neck baby top with shoulder button fastenings on each side so nothing is ‘pulled’ over the head. Clever stitch gives a sloping cable effect without using a cable needle!

Materials: James C Brett It’s 100% Pure Cotton DK: 2(2) x 100 g balls 215m/234 yds, OR Sirdar Snuggly Replay: 2(3) x 50 g balls 150m/164 yds; pair each 3¼ mm and 4 mm needles; 4 small buttons; stitch holder.

Tension: 26 sts and 28 rows to 10 cm over patt, slightly stretched, using 4 mm needles. To knit a sample tension square, cast on 36 sts and work in patt as given for back.
