You should know how to crochet following stitches:
* ch (chain), sl st (slip stitch), sc (single crochet), blsc (back loop single crochet), dc (double crochet).

This pattern includes:

• very detailed step-by-step pictures with written instructions;
• chart.
• Instructions are given in English language, American crochet terminology.

Crochet hooks:

• 4.25 mm, 5 mm;
• 3 mm (optional).

Recommended materials:

• Worsted weight yarn in 3 colors, 1 skein each. Shown here: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, 3.5 oz/100 g/170 yd/156 m, 100% acrylic.
• Small amount of polyester fiberfill for a pom pom.
• Tapestry needle.
• 2 locking stitch markers.

Sizes:

• Hat and cowl: Kids Small (Kids Medium, Kids Large/Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large, Adult Extra Large) / 50 (52, 54, 56, 58, 60) cm / 19 5/8 (20 ½, 21 ¼, 22, 22 ¾, 23 5/8)’’ head circumference, later in the pattern sizes KS (KM, S, M, L, XL).
• Hat from edge to crown top: 19 (22, 25, 28, 30, 32) cm / 7 3/8 (8 5/8, 9 ¾, 11, 11 ¾, 12 ½)’’.
• Cowl height: 18 (20, 22, 24, 26, 28) cm / 7 (7 7/8, 8 5/8, 9 3/8, 10 ¼, 11)’’. Pom-pom diameter is 6 cm / 2 ¼’’.

Gauge:
* Linen Stitch: 18 sts x 18 rows = 4 x 4’’ (10 x 10 cm).
